The identity protection service allows you to protect your personal or corporate WHOIS details. By default, when you register a domain, your registrant info becomes publicly available for everyone to see. With the identity protection feature activated, your information will be instantaneously hidden and the WHOIS search will return the domain name registration service provider's data instead of yours.
